Joanna Lea found yoga many years ago as an easy transition from ballet, after an injury prevented her from dancing. Over the years, she took classes sporadically at many different studios and gyms. She always felt there was something more than asana and a deeper meaning and purpose beyond the posses. Her heart’s deep longing for meaning in yoga led her to back to yoga in 2018 to find relief from stress, physical pain and restriction.
Joanna completed 9-month intensive studies of asana, pranayama and meditation in the lineages of Viniyoga and Parayoga received from her teacher Patricia Alonso, whose lineage comes from her teachers Gary Kraftsow and Rod Stryker.
This journey led her to what she suspected all along – yoga as means to maintain her best physical, mental and spiritual self through asanas (posses), pranayama (breathing), meditation and Ayurveda (an ancient practice of holistic whole body health).
Joanna recently completed her 200HR Yoga certification studying at Shakti Yoga Center with its owner, Patricia Alonso, to further her personal practice. As one excellent student of the program, Joanna was offered a 6-month mentorship program to further her education and share her love for yoga teaching at Shakti Yoga Center, under the close supervision of her mentor.
Joanna’s plans to expand her knowledge to include yoga benefits for pre/post natal woman and for seniors. When she is not on the mat she works as a bookkeeper for small businesses, while she is studying to become a doala and juggles the needs and activities of her five children.
